- We’re not all rich.
While some real estate agents do make a lot of money, the majority of us do not. In fact, according to the National Association of Realtors, the median income for real estate agents in 2020 was $45,340.
- We work long hours.
The real estate industry is a 24/7 business. We often have to work evenings and weekends to show homes and meet with clients. And during the busy season, we can easily work 60 or more hours per week.
- We’re not just salespeople.
We’re also educators, negotiators, and problem-solvers. We have to be able to explain complex real estate concepts to our clients, negotiate on their behalf, and help them solve any problems that may arise during the home buying or selling process.
- We have to be good at multitasking.
We often have multiple clients at different stages of the home buying or selling process. This means we have to be able to juggle multiple tasks at once and keep track of a lot of information.
- We have to be good at dealing with people.
We interact with a wide variety of people on a daily basis, including clients, sellers, buyers, and other real estate professionals. We have to be able to build relationships with these people and manage their expectations.
- We have to be able to think on our feet.
Things don’t always go according to plan in the real estate industry. We have to be able to think on our feet and adapt to changing circumstances.
- We have to be persistent.
The real estate industry can be competitive. We have to be persistent in order to succeed. This means following up with clients, networking with other professionals, and marketing ourselves.
- We have to be organized.
We have to be able to keep track of a lot of paperwork, including contracts, listings, and financial documents. We also have to be able to manage our time effectively.
- We have to be detail-oriented.
We have to be able to pay attention to detail in order to avoid mistakes. This is especially important when it comes to paperwork and financial transactions.
- We have to be passionate about real estate.
This is a demanding job. It requires long hours, hard work, and dedication. But it’s also a very rewarding career. If you’re passionate about real estate, then it’s the perfect job for you.
If you’re thinking about becoming a real estate agent, I encourage you to do your research and find a good mentor. The real estate industry can be a great way to make a living and help people achieve their dreams of homeownership. But it’s important to be prepared for the challenges and demands of the job.
